Loosing attachments, wholeheartedness

Again from The Gospel According to Jesus – by Stephen Mitchell, comes another great passage explaining the words Jesus spoke of the kingdom of God: “Or the kingdom of God is like this: there was a merchant looking for fine pearl, who found one pearl of great price, and he went and sold everything he had and bought it.”

who found one pearl of great price, and he went and sold everything he had: Wholeheartedness is one requirement. We have to give ourselves completely, and let go of everything in our life, especially of life itself. This “everything” turns out to be infinitely less that the nothing that we receive.
Ramana Maharshi said:
Reality is simply the loss of the ego. Destroy the ego by seeking its identity. It will automatically vanish and reality will shine forth by itself. This is the direct method.
There is no greater mystery that this, that we keep seeking reality though in fact we are reality. We think that there is something hiding reality and that this must be destroyed before reality is gained. How ridiculous! A day will dawn when you will laugh at all your past efforts. That which will be on the day you laugh is also here and now.
